Although the concept of sustainable
tourism is closely related to that of protection of the
environment, in a broader sense it does not exclusively
refer to the preservation of the natural heritage of a
country or city, but also to the preservation of its social
and cultural richness. We can all contribute to the endogenous
development and sustainable tourism of our country. The
development is said to be sustainable when it is born
from within, in every home and community and from deep
inside every citizen.
From
this point of view, sustainable tourism means any tourist
activity that fosters social equity, protection of the
environment, economic growth and human development, preserving
the quality of life of present and future generations.
It is born within every community, guarding its historic,
cultural, socioeconomic and natural heritage.
Tourism is a source of wellbeing for everyone. It is a
unique opportunity as it contributes to the creation of
emplyment. At the same time, it helps people to understand,
acknowledge and show to the world the diversity of our
country’s attractions, the beauty of our heritage
and the kindness of our people. Through participation,
it promotes cross-cultural interchange and integration.
