Program description

Many of the social organizations that we collaborate with are obligated by their principles, their life of protest and struggle, and their deep ideals of equality and dignity for everyone to create means and tools to spread their actions.

These organizations do not have big financial funds or technical resources, but what they do have above all is a great deal of creativity that allows them to express themselves in the most striking ways.

Volunteers tasks

  • Some of the tasks the volunteer can help with, using their technical skills, are the widespread circulation within the neighbourhood of the work that the Community Centre does on a daily basis. For example planning and organizing events and communicating their social grievance actions such as fighting for their rights and denouncing injustice.
  • Volunteers can collaborate with the team to improve the efficiency of assembling written summaries of reports from the mass media to broadcast to the neighbourhood.
  • Collaborating on the construction of videos, presentations and other dissemination tools.
  • Attending and helping organize meetings and protests.
  • Translating English newspaper articles into Spanish for analysis.

Key information

You can learn creative ways of communication related with tradition, culture, poverty, constant resistance and eternal fighting for a better quality of life, without losing hope or happiness. This area is the heart of the current social organizations in Argentina and Latin America. Today their communication and the example of their actions are the best tools to achieve a real and profound social change. In order to be able to help and work accurately and effectively, you need to be patient at the start in order to understand the social and political movement in Argentina, and as a result, to be able to understand the actions of the Community Centre and what they feel they have to express.

Location and first day

The Community Centre is in the neighborhood of La Boca. The communication and press team work in a room with various computers and big table which at times they share with other areas if they need to meet. Your first day will be spent getting to know the whole Community Centre. You can meet more than 80 people who all work there in different areas, such as the textile school, the cooperatives, micro enterprises and the kitchen that provides lunch for more than 150 people every day. It is a unique and interesting space where you can see the real and profound work of the social organizations in Argentina.
